Orsa is the embodiment of precision: an elegant pendant reduced to its essential elements, allowing the light to express a greater volume. A thin metal stem flares out on one end to form the heat sink and housing for the LED, with a UV heat-sealed methacrylate cover containing the light source. The methacrylate cover design ensures that the light source remains invisible , giving it the appearance of a floating disk of light. Foster + Partners’ industrial design team experimented with various materials, surfaces and optics to achieve the desired lighting effect and volume. An elegant and minimalist object, Orsa is designed as a single piece or as part of a larger whole.
