ACRILICA – PMMA transparent
Acrilica 281, designed by Joe Colombo in 1962 for Oluce, is an iconic piece of Italian design. Created in collaboration with his brother Gianni Colombo, this model was later named “Acrilica” due to its groundbreaking use of methacrylate. Unlike other lighting designs of the time, which used thin, thermoformed acrylic sheets, this lamp leverages the conductive properties of solid methacrylate. The light from a fluorescent bulb, housed in the lacquered steel base, travels up through the transparent body, illuminating the top in a stunning and timeless effect. Acrilica is a visionary piece that combines aesthetics and technological innovation. A must-have for lighting enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate historical yet avant-garde design.
